You will select one (1) artwork produced between 1800 and the 2020s to explore how it approaches one or more of the following:
Notions or roles of gender
Diversity (neurodiversity, generational diversity, diverse bodies, ethnicity, etc.)
Politics or social issues
A relationship to cultural identity
For this analytical option, you must demonstrate your understanding and ability to effectively evaluate and reflect upon the information gathered, as well as your understanding of historical, social, and/or cultural influences in artistic endeavors.
Step 2
Carefully research your selected artwork so you will be familiar with its historical context, the artist’s mind frame and intention, any prior influences that had an effect on the artwork, etc.
Approach the following:
Period, art movement, or style (as applied)
Genre or main theme
Briefly discuss how the main visual elements and principles of design (composition) are conveyed in the selected artwork.
Content approach:
How does the work make you feel? Why?
What does the artist want to transmit? That is, how does the artwork present notions of gender, diversity (neurodiversity, generational diversity, diverse bodies, race, ethnicity, etc.), social issues, politics, or work with a clear relationship to cultural identity?
Why do you consider your selected artwork to be a remarkable example of how the fine arts reflect humanities and modern society in general?
How did the analysis of this artwork help you better understand the importance of our global socio-cultural responsibility?
