Create a two-column, expectations model and include several statements indicating mutual expectations. Focus on job-specific and job-relevant expectations. Stay away from broad-based expectations such as “follow company policies” or “work hours are 8 am to 5 pm”, etc. These are general expectations of all employees. Instead, the exercise should focus on critical mutual expectations for the manager and the employee. Focus on the first 100 days of the job, and include a minimum of ten specific, observable and measurable expectations for each manager and employee.
