We are all members of multiple communities, and those communities can be complex and difficult (Links to an external site.); some of our communities are decided for us, and some of them are decided by us. It is through membership in communities that we find commonalities with other human beings and create relationships. This essay assignment requires you to identify a community of which you are a part and can serve as a representative. Explain something that is commonly understood by my community to a particular audience from a different community. This involves anticipating needs of a particular audience, selecting what and how much information to share (such as history or descriiption), and thinking critically about how particular things or situations are significant to a particular community. Upon finishing your essay, your reader should understand your place in your community, the values of the community itself, and you as an individual.
