SECOND read and discuss the following that is attached (1 page): Explain how Rosswurm and Larrabees framework facilitates translating theory into practice. Rosswurm and Larrabee (1999) outline a systematic model that healthcare professionals can follow to implement evidence-based changes in their practice. The authors note that despite models being published in the past, practitioners continue to struggle with incorporating evidence-based change. Rosswurm and Larrabee sought to change this and built a model around theoretical and research literature that is associated with evidence-based practice, as well as theory change. The authors provide a detailed step-by-step system for nurses and other healthcare professionals to follow. Rosswurm and Larrabees framework walks a clinician through the entire approach, which includes identifying, researching, and implementing change. Tools, such as worksheets and algorithms, are included that can be used by a practitioner to merge knowledge and make clinical decisions. The authors even discuss how to maintain change after implementing it in practice. Maintaining occurs through successfully implementing the change, monitoring the results, and encouraging participation with incentives (Rosswurm & Larrabee, 1999). The framework provided aids an individual in translating theory into his or her independent practice. However, the authors comment on the importance of the practice setting throughout the process. Practitioners can make individual changes; yet they must receive support from others in their system. Rosswurm and Larrabee encourage participation from all levels of the healthcare system throughout their model. They state that change is better received when the top-down method is avoided (Rosswurm & Larrabee, 1999). For practitioners who are struggling to or who have never attempted to integrate evidence-based change, this model is essential to facilitate the process. I feel that this model will be useful to my practice in the future. Not only did they describe the process on an independent level, but the authors also highlight the significance of working as a team to implement changes in the interest of providing the best care.
