What are the Effects of Culture, Economics, Political, Historical Contexts, and Genetics on Cognitive and Psychosocial Development.Various contextual aspects affect every persons development. Using your own personal story as an example, analyze and explain how each of these contexts affected your cognitive development and your psychosocial development. Give at least one example for each: Culture Socio-economics Political and/or historical contexts Ethnicity and/or race Genetic codes and/or brain activity Your paper should be at least 3 pages typed (double spaced), or four pages handwritten. This assignment is worth 30 points. Points are assigned based on your ability to address each area of development (cognitive and psychosocial), as well as each context (culture, socioeconomics, political or historical, ethnicity or race, and genetics). Be sure to give an example for each that clearly illustrates your understanding of these. The example provided below is just one contextual influence on cognitive and psychosocial development. You are to write about all five. Example of how one context (political and historical) has influenced my cognitive development and my psychosocial development: I was one of four sisters who grew up in southern California in the 1960s and 1970s. During this time womens rights were starting to be fought for in the workplace, women went to college to be educated (not just to meet men), birth control affected womens sexual freedom, women were now being portrayed on television as strong role models, working outside of the home, and the increase in the divorce rate meant that many women had to go to work to support their families. All of these political and historical changes influenced the way that my parents raised their daughters. They taught us that education was key to success in life. You should not depend on a man for your future happiness or security. College was considered a must! There were no other options for us. This attitude strongly affected my cognitive development. Because of the expectation, I did well in school and went on to college. Having the expectation for going to college affects the way you think and perceive the world. It affects how you think about yourself, school, education, and everything the world can offer you. How these attitudes affected my psychosocial development is that I always felt that women could do anything they wanted to if they worked hard. There was freedom in that idea (I can be anything I choose to be) as well as a sense of responsibility (I must work hard, be able to support myself, dont count on anyone else but myself). I always felt supported in my college career, as well in whatever path I took from there, but I always felt I on my own and that I had to take care of myself. No one else was going to do that. My parents were always proud of each one of their daughters accomplishments and they let us know that. I believe that kind of support translates into my sense of pride in my efforts, work ethic, success and happiness in my adult life. You will also be given points based on your ability to clearly demonstrate your understanding of how nurture and nature work together to influence your development. In your concluding paragraph, summarize your feelings about whether Nature or Nurture has played a more significant role in your development. This activity correlates to the objective: Thinking critically about the Effects of Culture, Economics, Political, Historical Contexts, and Genetics on Cognitive and Psychosocial Development.Show more
