write a short report on an invention, discuss the historical, social, economic, and other influences that led to or shaped the invention, and what impact the invention had on society. The invention does not necessarily need to be a machine or device, it could be a process, an idea, a style, etc. Choose something that is interesting to you, perhaps something related to your major or a hobby. Although you should include some history, the paper should focus on what drove the development of the invention, and the lasting effects of the invention. Focus more on why it was developed and the lasting effects (intentional or not), rather than what it is. What social, economic, political, or other forces/pressures influenced the development of the invention? (Was there a need for it? Was it developed by accident?…) Examine the effects (good and/or bad) the invention had on society, the environment, economy, politics, etc. Use factual information from your sources to back up your claims – do not simply state opinions. For example, don’t simply say something like, “the use of cell phones has decreased personal interaction” without backing it up with facts, statistics, etc. from your sources. Otherwise it is just an unbacked opinion.
