Based on your readings and lecture videos from this module and from the overall course, you will need to write an “mini” Opinion Editorial for a newspaper/media source audience. (no longer than 500 words). Opinion editorials, or “op-eds,” are short commentary pieces. An op-ed is a way to communicate your message, directly and unfiltered, to target audiences. Op-eds appear each day in almost every newspaper and usually weigh in on current issues, express a viewpoint, and frequently offer solutions to address those issues. Op-eds are a valuable advocacy tool and can raise awareness about important issues. Policymakers and voters often read op-eds. [this is an in-class assignment only, you do not need to actually submit your op-ed to a news outlet]
Your “mini” op-ed should specifically discuss one of the family caregiver policies discussed in this module and/or your readings. ( MEDICIAD, MEDICARE, National Family Caregiver Support Program, the Lifespan Respite Care Act, and the Family Medical Leave Act, OR RAISE ACT). Discuss how the family caregiver policy does or does not adequately meet the needs of family caregivers. Include at least one “call to action” to get the attention of voters and policymakers.
