Assignment Description:

Write a 700-800 word annotated bibliography related to your research topic. An annotated
bibliography involves summarizing and evaluating your research sources. You will annotate all
3 of your required minimum of 3 sources. I am also requiring an introduction and conclusion, so
I can see how these sources tie together. Remember that one of your sources should contain a
viewpoint that opposes your own. You must use MLA format.

Audience, Purpose, and Tone

This assignment’s audience AND purpose are intertwined. The assignment will show both you
and me that you are on the right track with your research. Doing this will also allow you to
integrate your sources easily into your paper and give you some practice with MLA citation.
You may use first person pronouns (I, me, my, mine, etc.) if you wish.

Other Considerations
Proofread! If your grammar and spelling and punctuation are a mess, then nobody can read your
argument properly. Always be considerate to your reader.
Format: Please read the MLA paper formatting guidelines (and template) before you submit
your paper. These are the same guidelines we used in the MLA Format discussion post in Unit
Two. Again, you do not need the Works Cited portion of the template.

Introduction Paragraph

• Start by telling what your topic is, what your position is regarding it, and why you
are interested in it
• Put your thesis as the last line of the introduction. The thesis will state in a
general way that the articles you found will be useful to your research paper.
Body (this should consist of 3 paragraphs)
• Each body paragraph will summarize and evaluate one source that you intend to
use in your research paper.
• Each body paragraph will be preceded by a works cited entry using MLA 8.
• There is a sample entry on the following page in D2L.
Concluding Paragraph
• End with a more specific set of statements about how these articles differ and
how they will aid your research.
