You are to pick a readily available consumer product, that is, one that can
be easily found in the supermarket. You should be specific, pick a brand and a
particular item. The project will be easiest of you select a product that is
very commonly used and with which you are familiar. Don’t select a little-known
product about which it will be difficult to find information. If you’re not
sure before you make your final selection, do some checking in the library or
on the web. You cannot select products such as alcoholic beverages, personal
hygiene products, tobacco products, E Cigs, apparel, medical and recreational marijuana,
automobiles, electronics, sports teams, electric toothbrush, etc. You must pick
something as described above and family friendly. You must email your selected
product for approval. Should you not
have product approved, be sure it has not been taken and can be purchased as at
least 3 supermarkets.

You are to research the product by using traditional library resources, the
Internet, contacting the company, and most importantly, by looking for the
product and its competitors in stores, and advertising and promotion for the
product in various media. Do not rely solely on the product website!! At
least 3 sources must be from reputable publications. You
are to read the section on marketing in your text and identify the relevant
marketing theory for each of the questions below. You
must site the text in your paper, chapter and page number for each question. Points will be deducted from paper for failure
to follow directions.
Your report must include each question numbered followed by your answer. After all questions have been answered,
prepare a written report using MS Word or PDF (Font Times New Roman, 12), in
which the questions below are summarized in three to four pages. Questions and report will be one document! The
questions are your research and the results of your research are in the
report Be sure
to use Headings; i.e., Introduction, etc. for each section of your report. Points will be deducted from paper for
failure to follow directions. Upload

Marketing Project Questions

Introduction: a brief description of
the product and the company that makes it. This should be one or two paragraphs.

What is marketing?
How are the 4 Ps used for your product?
3.
What forces make up this product’s marketing
environment?
4.
Is the maker of this product segmenting using mass marketing
or target marketing? If it is a target market approach, how have they segmented
the market? How can you tell this is their target market?
5.
What is the consumer decision-making process and consumer
behavior at each stage of the purchase process?
Explain each.
6.
Describe the product differentiation for your product.
7.
What stage of the product life cycle do you think this
product is in? How can you tell?
8.
Does the manufacturer of this product make other
products? If so, how does this product fit into their product mix? Where does
this fit in the product line?
9.
What are the major competitors – both other brands and
other products – for this product? Do
some research by using library resources? What can you tell about the
competitive position of this product based on its placement on the store
shelves? Take a picture of the placement on the shelf and include the pictures
in in the question section of your report.
Visit at least 3 stores and list what you see.
10. What
kind of packaging does this product have in terms of design, functionality, labeling,
and warnings? How does it compare to competitors’ packaging? Consider various
sizes, bundling, etc.
11. What
kind of pricing strategy and pricing tactics do you think the maker of this product
employs?
12. What
is of utility? Explain each for this
product.
13. What
is the promotion mix for this product? What kind of advertising have you found
for this product? (Include examples). What kind of publicity, if any, have you
found for this product? (Include examples where practical)
14. Explain
the supply chain. What is the retail distribution channels for this product?
15. Some
concluding comments. Here is where you can give your opinion. Don’t just end
the report.

APA in-text citations in report and Reference page, APA Style.

the above directions are not followed.
Be sure to list all the sources you consulted for this project. Be
careful about academic honesty! Your
report must have at least 5 sources on the reference list…not only product’s
web site. At least 3 sources must be from
reputable publications. Five points will
automatically be deducted if you do not have at least 5 sources.
PowerPoint presentation will consist of at least 5 slides. Presentations
are not graded; however, 2 points automatically will be deducted if paper is
not presented.
