Advocacy Email Guidelines
When advocating for an issue, it is essential that your communication skills be effectual, professional, accurate, and persuasive. Effective communication skills include the ability to create precise and accurate summaries and to craft professional, properly formatted emails. Business communications experts Carol Lehman & Debbie Dufrene recommend these basic guidelines for business-oriented email communication:
Include an informative subject line.
Include a salutation that is not too casual.
Format your email for easy readability.
Limit your message to one screen.
Use short paragraphs and complete sentences. Paragraphs should not be indented.
Include a simple closing, such as “Thank you” to end your message.
Include a signature at the end of your message.
