1. Explain institutional racism and its effect on its recipients. Be thorough in your explanation. You will need to find and use other resources to clarify/support/enhance your explanation.
2. What have you noted about individual and/or institutional racism in your nursing education experience?
3. Using one of the allegories in the TED talk, e.g., “conveyer belt” explain the meaning of the allegory and it’s link to racism. What did the allegory teach you about what can be done about institutional racism.
4. Discuss the general meaning of “colonialism” and then how colonialism permeates nursing. What implications does colonialism in nursing have for the profession and for patients?
5. Using the article above, Beyond Meaning: Institutional Racism in Nursing, discuss the next steps that can be taken to address the issue of institutional racism in nursing.
6. What can we learn about the future of nursing from the article about African Americans, Slavery & Nursing in the U.S. South
