COURSE OUTCOME:
6. Incorporate ethical practice and research within the nursing discipline and organizational environments.
PURPOSE: This online discussion will continue the conversation of ethical practice in nursing. Many client populations are underserved in health care. These populations exist due to a number of variables such as gender, economics, social classes, health beliefs, education level, and many more. As nurses, we also need to consider variables such as available resources, and social policies that have been developed regarding access, equity, affordability, and social justice in health care delivery. You will select an area that you are interested in regarding resources, access, equity, or affordability. Some examples of topics: cost of medications can be an inequity, global concerns, access to care and compliance (insurance, primary care, or rural access to acute care, etc.)
There are so many different areas to explore and this will be a very rich conversation for the class. If you are unsure of what to focus on, please contact the instructor for assistance.
Directions:
Find a scholarly research article (minimum of 1) that addresses practice dilemmas related to issues of access, equity, affordability, and social justice related to medications or treatment.
Describe why you selected this topic and what is the implication to nursing practice.
Then, summarize the article and bring forward at least two main points that you found to be the most compelling.
Lastly, describe how this will influence your nursing practice.
Respond to at least one peers statement. Response can add supportive information or resources, provide information in respectful disagreement, or to bring forward personal or clinical experiences.
