Texture in music is often something subtle, but so important. Since you have been doing such a great job on your listening I am sure you have become very sensitive to the effect that different textures can have on the essence of the music.
Ever since I first heard the shakuhachi, I have been fascinated by its sound and the music great players create. In this episode, Tomie Hahn gives uses a great deal of important information. For your essay, I would like you to define, in your own words, the four important words associated with texture: monophony, heterophony, homophony, and polyphony. In addition, and very importantly, research the shakuhachi and tell me what you find that invigorates you about the sound of this instrument.
I look forward to reading your essay.
