The paper will be a significant one, of approximately 3,000 words of text (i.e. not including footnotes, bibliography, etc.)
Please remember that, for this course, the paper should involve substantial research. That means investigating primary sources – letters, papers, documents, newspaper articles etc. – while using secondary sources (scholarly books, articles, etc.) for background and context. Another important primary source could be oral history: interviewing people who know about, even experienced, the events/issues you are exploring. Internet resources may be used, but judiciously, primarily as a means of utilizing otherwise unobtainable materials.
