• Topic: Congress.
• Choose comprehensive/detailed articles on the issue.
• Articles must be published within the last three weeks.
• Articles must be opposed to each other. They take conflicting positions on a single issue.
• Writing: succinct, well-written, be sure to use paragraphs: a group of sentences on a single topic
• NEWS ONLY: Only facts. Who, What, When, Where, and How! There is no opinion by the journalist/author in the article.
• Sources (If possible):
o One article from New York Times, Washington Post or Los Angeles Times
o One article from New York Post, Washington Examiner, Washington Times
o The articles should be on a single issue.
• Analysis:
o To find two really good articles on the issue will probably require that you read more than two articles on the issue.
o Briefly summarize the articles: Can be done separately or together.
o Why is the issue important?
o Compare & contrast the articles – How did they disagree? Did they agree at all? If so how?
o Did the news article(s) give an opinion? If so, in what way? What was the opinion?
o In a news article, journalists are not supposed to give their opinion.
o Did one or both articles give you a good understanding of the issue?
o What is your opinion of the issue?
