Write an explanation of ethnic groups and collectivities in each paper.Using Haitian Americans and African Americans as examples, explain the concepts of ethnic collectivities and ethnic categories.
Ethnic collectivities refer to a sense of ethnicity that is based more on identity, shared experiences, traditions, and so forth. Ethnic categories are more like the standard “boxes” we see on forms asking us what our race/ethnicity is. In the case of Haiti and in other places, these may not match up.
An example with another group can also be seen in white Anglo-Saxon Protestant Caucasians in the U.S. who likely differ ethnically and culturally from Irish-Americans, Italian-Americans, Polish-Americans, and other caucasian groups. Irish-Americans could feel more part of a collectivity with not only other Irish-Americans, but with those ethnic groups of Catholic faith, and on other identity factors.
