1. The essay should provide a description on the relationship between human
activities/footprint with language.
2. The essay should focus on a specific language phenomenon and the human activity
rather than a general overview of the topic/theme discussed in the class. Discuss the
non-linguistic (e.g. historical, social, or cultural) context that led and shaped the linguistic
phenomenon. Bonus points may be given to those essays with examples/data and
discussions other than those given in the lectures.
3. The essays should be written in a formal and academic style with proper citation of sources
and references that have been consulted.
