topic chosen is “Food Insecurity
Group or community of focus is Indigenous Peoples living in Canada or Ontario
This assignment is intended to help you begin your literature search and reading early in preparation for the final paper. You will be completing an annotated bibliography, which is a useful way to organize and keep track of multiple sources reviewed in preparation for a paper. You will likely complete several annotated bibliographies during your degree.
A helpful resource link for how to format an annotated bibliography in APA is:
The Purdue Online Writing Lab (OWL)
Prior to beginning your annotated bibliography, read through the instructions for Assignment 3 (Final Essay) and choose your essay topic.
Once you’ve chosen an essay topic, find six (6) scholarly and current sources (a general rule is no more than 5-7 years old) that are related to your chosen essay topic and may be used to help you prepare for writing your final essay.
One of your six (6) sources must be a required reading from any of the course modules, which will ensure that you are able to link your topic to social welfare foundations and theory. The remaining five (5) sources must be from peer-reviewed academic journals. Your sources must apply to the Canadian context, so if you find a source that is from the United States, remember it is a completely different social welfare regime and the paper may not apply to the context of Canada if it speaks to American policy.
It is expected that you will continue to research sources for your paper beyond the sources used for this annotated bibliography assignment. Some sources will be useful for the essay but are not good for annotations (such as newspaper articles or statistical reports). For more support, you may want to contact library staff well in advance of the due date. Also note that if you find sources on SPON.ca, you will have to go to the original source of the reports and cite those original authors since SPON.ca is an aggregator site, not the author of its content.
In your annotated bibliography, you should begin with 2-3 sentences describing your chosen essay topic. Your sources should then be arranged alphabetically using APA format. After each APA-formatted citation, include a 1-2 paragraph summary of the main ideas/findings of the source as they relate to your chosen topic. Each paragraph should be brief yet comprehensive.
Your annotated bibliography should be 2-3 pages (not including cover sheet or references sheet), double-spaced, APA formatted, 12-point font, Times New Roman, with standard margins.
