Your report will contain six primary elements:
1) Overview of the organization (2 pages)
a. Purpose of the organization (e.g. history, mission, vision, products /services provided, etc.)
b. Organizational chart that identifies and describes the functional areas of the organization2)
Methodology (1 page)
a. Describe the applied research methods you used to assess the organization in its current state (e.g. interviews, observation, document analysis, etc.)
3) Four Frames Assessment (12-15 pages)
a. Diagnose the organization’s strengths & weaknesses based on Bolman &Deal’s Four Frames
b. Identify the frames in the organization and discuss the strengths andweaknesses regarding each frame (Structural, HR, Political, Symbolic)
c. Consider the questions:
i. In what ways do the frames interact with each other and with the physical setting and the environment?
ii. How do different parts of the organization interact to determine what goes on?
iii. What happens if the various interactions cause problems?
4) Leadership Capacities Assessment (5-6 pages)
a. Diagnose the strengths and limitations of the leadership capacities of keyindividuals in the organization.
b. Make explicit connections between leadership concepts covered in the course, to the context of the individuals in the organization.
5) Recommendations for Improvement (10-12 pages)
a. Provide rationale for your recommendations to improve the organization.You should think about how you ‘build on the strengths’ and ‘rectify the weaknesses.’
i. NOTE: Your recommendations for improvement must include several“big” and “long” changes (see Al-Haddad & Kotnour, 2015)
b. Explain the leadership processes necessary to bring about these changes in the organization. This section should draw clear insights from various sources covered in the course, including:
i. Bolman & Deal – consider chapter 18 on “change strategy,” makingsure to integrate elements of all Four Frames
ii. Northouse – Identify appropriate leadership styles essential forfacilitating necessary changes
iii. Organizational Change readings – advise the change process utilizingat least one change model covered in the course6) References – APA format (as necessary)
