The EU is actively considering a proposal to cap the price of natural gas this
winter as the continent of Europe may be heading into a significant shortage of
heating fuel throughout the region. Obviously, the European leadership is
trying to minimize impacts on potential skyrocketing prices of natural gas due to
this expected shortage and continued fall out in the war between Russia and
Ukraine. Based on your research, what do you believe will be the two or three
most consequential direct implications to putting a price cap on a free market
product like natural gas even if only for a short period of time (i.e. through the
winter months). Additionally, identify two or three potential unforeseen
consequences to artificially setting or capping the price of natural gas this
winter.
