DISCUSSION POST:I am unsure of the nature of the non-profit organization the wing is utilized for. In this case, the ethical issue is the tie between the donor and the company. Is this money tainted because of the unethical behavior of the donor’s company? The case says that the donor was not liable for any wrongdoing. What is the motivation behind the donor granting the funds for the new wing? What is the status of the donor’s company, and how is the unethical behavior being remediated? These questions must be answered to clarify if accepting the funds would prove corrupt.
I would ask more questions if I had to decide whether to accept the funds or not. I would also ask if the wing could be named in his honor but not his formal name. For instance, call the branch after his favorite pet’s name, nickname, child’s name, hobby, or something like that. This would still honor the donor but allow some detachment between the wing and the donor. Then I would discuss the pros and cons with the board, ask more questions, and seek the best possible solution with everyone’s buy-in.
13.1b
If this donation has a financial deferment from the organization, what would the gain be? If the organization must completely renovate its facility to have this donation, does that offer significant growth? The board needs to determine if the gift and time used for the donor’s time increase the sociability of the organization and promote its mission.
I would again ask more questions. I would like to know if the donation, renovation, and personal use will positively impact my organization. I would then go back to the donor with some stipulations such as costs of renovations, blackout dates for the use of the facility, and required upkeep of the pieces. I would discuss this and any other questions with the board to ensure that the donation benefits the organization. I don’t feel like there is a vast ethical line crossed, but I think that the selfishness of the donor might deter the organization’s actual mission. The organization’s success is my main concern.
Question 3
Christian principles, commands, warnings, guidelines, and instructions are found in the bible from Genesis to Revelation. This is to steer our lives so that we lean into doing good and being God-honoring. Ethical instruction is part of being a Christian; we must receive God’s instruction with submission and wisdom. Ethics are rooted in God; it is not something that humans invented. God allows us to be morally accountable to him. According to the text, ethical standards are why we have accountability and compliance with the law. As Christians, we are governed by humans and God’s laws. This allows us to hold existing standards to what is right and wrong and align them with our Christian values to ensure we behave ethically.
