Use the following criteria:
There should be a posed research statement at the beginning of the paper. A research statement is the paper’s central argument in a single sentence. The research statement should answer the research question.
The introductory paragraph should introduce the research question. In the introductory paragraph, also briefly explain how to answer the research question and a summary of the paper’s central arguments. The Introduction section should not be more than 10% (1 page) of the paper.
Format the paper and use the ‘Style’ function in Word document for a professional presentation
The essay should have an introduction (10%), body paragraphs (80%) and a conclusion (10%). The introduction should have a brief description of what you will be covering and how you are going to do it. The main body should have a description and an analysis of the issues.
Structure the essay on each level (1) the whole essay level (e.g. introduction, body, and conclusion); (2) paragraph level and (3) sentence level.
Make sure each paragraph is a unit, with its logic and structure. Have a concluding paragraph.
Write in complete sentences; avoid dangling modifiers.
Use simple, straightforward language. Explain the new terms when introduced (e.g. ijtihad). Do not use colloquial language and contractions (e.g. ‘didn’t’, ‘cannot’).
Avoid plagiarism at all costs! (Turnitin will also pick this up).
Have citations on every page. However, avoid long quotations in the research paper but paraphrase ideas in your own words. Use direct quotes to prove an argument rather than to give information. Reference all the sources appropriately.
Follow the Harvard citation reference and format strictly.
Do not exceed the word limit/ page limit.
Edit the paper thoroughly before submitting it. Check spelling, punctuation and grammar. Check that you have followed all the above guidelines.
