Write a theory of Intercultural Communication
The first step in preparing for the work is to establish yourself in the theoretical and practical roots of your area of interest. For this portion of the proposal, you will synthesize the following to answer these two questions:
What patterns have defined scholarship in this area of communication?
From the patterns you identify which is central to advancing this conversation in the next decade and why?
In order to begin your research, you should:
Find five to seven significant theorists whose work has directly influenced your primary area of intercultural communication research. At least two must be contemporaries of this historical moment.
Find five to seven defining theories associated with your chosen area of intercultural communication research. For example, if you are researching interpersonal communication, some theories to choose from include: Attribution Theory, Uncertainty Reduction Theory, etc.
Identify two to three practical trends associated with your intercultural communication research. These should ground the theoretical ideas youve explored in practice, providing clear marketplace or professional associations on how these ideas work in the world.
