As a final, we will return to the questions, topics, and interests that you now have explored through various writing and thinking, reflection and analysis exercises. This final exercise asks you to return to many of the skills you have practiced as a writer and thinker in your Seminar experience. The writing we will do is generative, it is analytical, it may be creative and personal. Consider this final writing prompt as the beginning of something substantial; think of it as the foundation of a structure yet to be built. That is to say, we will evoke the original meaning of essayer, a trying on or an experimentation of ideas.
Follow the guidelines attached here and compose answers carefully. Challenge yourself to respond in detail to every prompt, citing evidence where necessary and seeking surprises in your answers. Even if you don’t feel you have much of an answer, give yourself something and allow it to build and develop through the writing.
Some of these prompts may come more easily to you; some of the writing may feel more challenging. This is to be expected. Your success in this project will be determined by your commitment to the demands of the prompt, your engagement with sources, and your depth of thinking.
Use the attached google doc to organize and finalize your responses.
