1st USA Goverment Quarter Essay:
One of the primary fears of many people at the state level was that the central (federal) government under the new Constitution would overwhelm the state governments and eventually control everything. James Madison, writing as Publicus, tried to discount this argument, instead claiming that a powerful central government would guarantee peace and still protect the rights of the states and the people themselves. Using Federalist 44, 45 and 46, explain Madisons argument and give examples from the letters in which he tried to persuade those who feared the loss of states rights. Subsequently, have Madisons arguments proved to be valid?
