Jan Van Eyck was a master of illusion using oil paint. Spend some time researching his other work, they are full of questions. What do you think of an artist who leaves more questions than answers? Why would someone do this? Did they really use urine in the Renaissance to dye wool yellow? (yes. yes, they did).

Many times, we haven’t really thought of how big changes are affection us (the invention of the printing press and our dependence on words might be an example of this). The Migration Period (the Middle Ages) and Renaissance
It is said that for about 1000 years (after fall of Rome and before Age of Enlightenment) Europe plunged into a dark period. Changing this linear and Eurocentric view is important to figuring out how to get along better today. The Dan Adams essay does a nice little history of this period and I posted video series to give you more information to better judge this time period and realize that we are always changing what we know about history

The ‘invention’ of perspective to make an image look like walking through a window will change how we respond to images forever. Tell me what you didn’t know about this time (the Renaissance) and if you see any parallels with what we are going through today.
Tell me what was one thing that you learned from the video on the Atlantic Slave Trade? It important to refer to people stolen as ‘enslaved people’ and not as ‘slaves’? What is the difference? It’s not mentioned in the video – here is an explanation that does a good job at explaining why it is important.
