Select a specific union representing workers within a particular organization. Conduct research on the union, identifying its current collective agreement (or one of them if there are multiple collective agreements covering the organization’s workers), and conduct research on the organization employing the employees in order to answer the following questions and conduct this performance based assessment: 1. Describe the organization (e.g. # unionized workers, nature of the goods/service, national/international, etc), including the industry in which the organization is situated (provide relevant statistics where appropriate). Provide any historical insights into negotiations and/or labour-management relations. 2. Outline management’s current or previous labour relations strategy and its collective bargaining priorities. 3. Describe the union’s structure and purpose (or mandate) in supporting its membership. 4. Identify and explain the internal (e.g. lack of skilled workers, retention, demand, worker unrest, etc) and external factors (e.g. economic, political, legal, technological, etc) that are currently impacting this organization from a labour-management perspective. 5. Based in your findings from the above, identify three (3) articles in the current collective agreement that you would propose to change in the next round of negotiations from either management’s or the union’s point of view. 6. Describe specific factors that may impact your side’s bargaining power, using statistical data to support the factors where applicable. 7. Depending on your selection in #5 above, prepare a PowerPoint presentation (deck) simulating the presentation that you would be presenting to either management (employer side), or the union membership (union side), outlining your bargaining strategy, the three (3) proposals and the rationale supporting your proposals. Incorporate your research on the above questions into the presentation by way of context around the negotiations. Be sure to attach a copy of the relevant collective agreement. For this last assignment, please only prepare the Powerpoint Presentation Deck, incorporating the above questions/information above into the Deck. There is no essay/report required – Just the Deck.
