Assignment In at least 500 words, write a critical response expressing several important things. Make sure to also write your response in essay format, not in bulleted responses to the following questions. What is a social institution? Describe what a social institution is by providing a clear example (yes you can use your response from the first lesson this week, reformatted to include my feedback). After watching the documentary, what are your thoughts on educational institutions, historically and/or contemporarily? What is their purpose in society in relationship to your definition of what a social institution is? Why are some communities excluded from and/or their lives greatly affected by social institutions in not so positive ways? (i.e., I expect a discussion of what a dominant (hegemonic) social institution is–I shared a definition of this in the previous assignment. Reflexivity and objectivity are also key here).
