Write a paper describing what is Criminal Law.Due to the public uproar surrounding the policing of a series of high profile incidents in London, the Mayor of London has commissioned a report into the current state of policing in the city in order to try to understand the impact of such controversies and how best to respond. He is concerned by reports that such controversies tend to undermine public support for the police and wants to know if this is true, and if so, what to do about it. You have just started a new job as a researcher in the Mayor’s Office for Policing and Crime (Links to an external site.) (MOPAC) and your manager has given you the task of compiling the first draft of the report that will be presented to the Mayor. At this stage, because of the short turnaround time, you have been asked to write your report based on the existing academic evidence available, rather than undertaking any new primary research. However, the Mayor may use your report to decide whether further research or policy development is required. You have been asked to write to a word limit of 2,000 words (+/-10%, not including the list of references at the end) so that the Mayor and his advisors get an overview of the evidence, but in a digestible format that they will actually have time to read. The report will be published by MOPAC and they use the Harvard citation format, so you will need to familiarise yourself with this and make sure your report conforms to this format. You can find the template the publishers have provided here (Links to an external site.), which gives you the layout you need to follow and gives some advice about writing the report. The question you need to address is: Are recent controversies in the policing of London likely to have an impact on public support for, and perceptions of the legitimacy of the Metropolitan Police Service? If so, what steps might be taken to address this? Are recent controversies in the policing of London likely to have an impact on public support for, and perceptions of the legitimacy of the Metropolitan Police Service? If so, what steps might be taken to address this? Your report will need to contain: An explanation of the social and policy context of the question: what is the problem? A literature review covering the existing academic literature on the subject, explaining the different positions that various authors have taken: who has argued what and why? What do we already know? You will need to critically evaluate the material you are discussing, comparing and contrasting the academic arguments and analysing the kind of evidence on which they are based. A summary and analysis of the evidence in the cases you are concerned with. What have people said about the controversies you are addressing? What evidence is there already in the public domain? A discussion that uses the academic research you identified in the literature review to draw conclusions about the likely impact of these controversies, based on the evidence you have found. A conclusion that summarises your overall argument and draws attention to any recommendations you might have. There will be an assessment workshop dedicated to helping you write this assessment. The slides for the workshop and the recording of the online session will be here.
