Write a love letter to a work of art or architecture. You are not required to have seen this artwork in person, though it may be more natural and meaningful to describe if you are able to see/experience it face-to-face.
Love letters are ineffective when they are general—that is, if they could have been written to anyone! This means that you need to be specific and demonstrate that you’ve closely observed the work and read about it. You must use formal and contextual analysis.
Address your letter to the work of art. You can refer to the author of the work, but your letter should be addressed to the object. Use an intriguing opener; explain why you are writing. What do you adore about it? Relive an encounter or experience together, sharing your impressions of your “beloved.” You might use phrases like “I appreciate you the most when you….” “Your greatest strength is….” “The thing I think of first when your name comes to mind is…” “You’ve helped me discover…” “You’ve helped me forget about…” “You’ve challenged me to…” “Without you I could not have…”
Talk about a possible difference that this “beloved” object has made it your life.
Perhaps times haven’t always been good or smooth sailing. You could mention some difficult moments, something you don’t understand, and reflect on those challenges. Perhaps your relationship with this work is more “love/hate”; that’s okay, and your analysis can reflect those mixed emotions.
Be creative, use humor. Include an image of the work you’ve selected.
Length: 500 words (can be longer). In the format of a letter. “Dear Black Square, Dear Persepolis.. Dear NFT Animation…”
