After Bob Ewell does so with his left hand, Atticus puts the pieces together and realizes Bob Ewell was the man who raped Mayella Ewell. Atticus knows that Mayella was beaten on the right side of her face, and bruised all the way around the neck. Due to Tom Robinson’s condition, it is only logical to believe that Tom Robinson is innocent. Despite all of this, Tom Robinson is still found guilty, and locked up. But that’s not all, Tom Robinson was shot 27 times in an attempt to hop a fence, despite the guards knowing he was innocent.
