For the stance essay, students will create an in-depth argument that analyzes a topic related to our course readings and discussions. The paper will be at least 4-5 full pages in length. For this project, students should use the New York Times 1619 Project Download New York Times 1619 Project as an example of the type and style of argument to create. (Think of it this way: you′re writing an essay that could be incorporated into a version of the 1619 Project.) You′re welcome to choose a topic we′ve already examined this semester through our readings and films, or you can choose something else we haven′t gone into detail on yet.One requirement is that you must use at least one chapter from Kendi′s How to Be an Antiracist as a source, and you must also use at least one of our course films as a source.
