PART A: Reflect on how the COVID-19 pandemic has exposed areas for improvement within an agreed healthcare setting. Having agreed on the healthcare context: 1. Identify a single area of service or process within the context which the response to the COVID-19 pandemic identified as an opportunity for improvement. Provide an evidence-based rationale for your selection of this improvement. 2. Drawing on Donabedian’s (1988) Structure, Process and Outcome (SPO) framework critically examine the current situation and desired future situation to identify potential areas for improvement. 3. Utilizing the Model for Improvement, incorporating selected Lean Principles and applying the Habits of Improvers critically develop and document a quality improvement initiative to progress the opportunity for improvement identified. 4. The QI initiative must demonstrate o ? An understanding of your context using available data sources; o ? an aim statement, o ? a driver diagram, o ? use of at least two Plan-Do-Study-Act (PDSA) cycles, o ? and three (3) other quality improvement tools o Critique the tools o ? Provisions to monitor and evaluate the success of your quality improvement initiative (including a discussion on costs) and discuss limitations/drawbacks of using the above. o ? proposals to disseminate the initiative. PART B: As evidenced in the below quote, effective team-working is thought to be essential to high quality healthcare. We are living in extraordinary times. Healthcare teams face unprecedented challenges that they can only overcome by responding, learning and adjusting as a team. Effective teamwork matters more than ever, and so it is imperative to apply the same evidence-driven approach to enabling teamwork and coordination as we do to other medical challenges. (Tannenbaum et al, 2021, ) Recall an incident or scenario you witnessed that enabled the effective functioning of a healthcare team of which you may or may not have been a member. In this context, reflect on how your understanding of Belbins theory on team roles and selected Habits of Improvers can be used to improve the teams functioning and the quality of care provided. Use a reflective model and support your answer with appropriate references. Tannenbaum. SI, Traylor. AM, Thomas. EJ, et al.
