In preparing your final paper you have two options. The first is to connect the learning outcomes from your homeland security strategy that you developed for the Introduction to Homeland Security course (CRJ 601), or second, if you do not want to build on your strategy, you can focus on the value of using the multi-disciplinary/megacommunity model in developing strategies to secure our country/community.
The introduction in your final paper should start with either of the choices noted above, such as a recap of your homeland security strategy (CRJ 601), or a clear articulation of the value of megacommunities.
As with all papers, citations are required, must be proof-read, and at least 15 pages (double spaced) in length. Personal opinions are not acceptable unless you have been designated by your agency as a SME (subject matter expert).
Your paper should include some, if not all of the desired learning outcomes for this course. It should attempt to address how
Understand the preparedness cycle; and develop key federal/state/local/tribal strategies, definitions and necessary relationships when building homeland security and resilience.
Understand the similarities and differences between emergency management and homeland security.
Understand megacommunities and whole community concepts, and their key components.
Understand the disciplines associated with needed resources, what sector the disciplines belong to.
Distinguish between mission and function of the sectors
Distinguish the difference between primary and secondary sectors
Demonstrate increased understanding of multi-disciplinary approaches to homeland security through dialogue.
Identify challenges in understanding the whole community.
Demonstrate understanding of leveraging existing strengths in a community
Understand how to lead a multi-disciplinary approach to homeland security.
