This application assignment requires you to share a newsworthy current events story that demonstrates how one course concept from Module 1-4 has been used in practice. The concept that you select must come from the required readings and/or lecture discussion. First, please identify a casino industry current events story. Search gaming industry trade publications, Google News or the Gaming SmartBrief. Once you’ve found a story you wish to use, please summarize the situation and background. Then, use your understanding of the course concepts, readings and the lecture notes and apply your critical thinking to the current event’s situation. Depending on the news story that you are covering, your knowledge application may be identifying or solving a problem or your approach could involve comparing a current situation to an historic one. You have some flexibility on what to write about, as long as your approach shows an application of your understanding of history, cause-and-effect relationships and recurring patterns in the industry and/or other course concepts discussed to date. News story must be from a credible source within the last 90 days with appropriate citation. Context must be provided on why the story is immediately relevant to the topics being covered. Responses which are purely opinion and anecdotal are not considered to be substantive in nature. Original news story from an external source plus two additional external sources required. Assigned readings from the course do not count as external sources.
