Culture & Christianity and mission: This course examines important aspects of Christianity’s involvement in global culture. Alternative models and historical examples of this involvement are considered as well as the engagement of Christianity with specific current social and cultural issues. This course is intended to explore the ongoing relationship between Christianity and culture and, through this process, to encourage both a deeper cultural awareness and critical skills for critiquing culture from a thoughtful Christian perspective. This seminar-style course will feature a range of lectures, readings, and group discussions. In our initial Zoom conference, students will sign up for one online forum seminar presentation. You will look at the presentation schedule below and select the date and section on which you would like to present. Your presentation will cover the reading assigned for the date you choose. I choose a topic: How do Culture & Christianity relate to each other ¬ Lewis, Mere Christianity, Book III, Chapter 7-12 Bokk: Lewis, C. S. (1952). Mere Christianity. New York: Macmillan Publishing Company. Your seminar presentation will consist of the following two parts: • A basic summary of the author’s most important ideas. Your rule of thumb will be that what is important to the author is important to you, and • Your assessment of, and response to, the passage. This is your opportunity to interact with the article. For example, after reading this passage, what questions do you still have? Does this description of Christianity fit with the way you see Christianity expressed and lived in our culture? Would you have written any part of this passage differently? Highlight points of agreement and disagreement with the author and draw out any assumptions you find the author making.
