PROMPT:
Is Nicias a good leader for the Athenians? In what ways is his leadership beneficial? In what ways is it flawed? If he was a good leader, why did Athens falter under his leadership? If he was not, what would have made a good leader at that time? Why did Thucydides describe him as a man who “least deserved such a fate, seeing that the whole course of his life had been regulated with strict attention to virtue”? (VII.86) Is this supported by Thucydides’ account of him? Would Plutarch agree?
