Throughout the semester, you have learned a lot about forensic science. How to secure a crime scene, how to collect evidence properly, how different evidence is analyzed in the lab, and how that evidence is presented in court.
Using this knowledge, you should have a basic understanding of what processing a scene start
to finish should look like. And what it should not look like.
Assignment 2
Throughout the semester, you have learned a lot about forensic science. How to secure a crime
scene, how to collect evidence properly, how different evidence is analyzed in the lab, and how
that evidence is presented in court.
Using this knowledge, you should have a basic understanding of what processing a scene start
to finish should look like. And what it should not look like.
Your assignment is to pick any fictional crime television show of your choosing (Examples
include CSI, Bones, NCIS, etc). The show/episode should focus on physical evidence collection,
and not solely on DNA analysis or psychological profiling since you have not learned about that
in this class. The show should also be purposefully fictional, so documentaries or true-crime is
also not usable for this project.
You will watch this episode and critique its use of forensic science from start to finish. Who
secured the scene? How was evidence collected? Was anything photographed? How was
evidence processed? How was it recorded? And how was that evidence presented in court (if
applicable).
After explaining how the fictional show went about these activities, critique them for how
accurate they are or are not, and give examples of how a scene should be processed.
Your report should be a minimum of 1,000 words, and should include at least 4 sources. 1
source being your text book, one source being the video you watched, and 2 additional
scholarly sources to back up your claims. The show should also be purposefully fictional, so documentaries or true-crime is also not usable for this project.
