You will select a topic that you are interested in learning more about. Part of this assignment will ask you to research and respond to the following:
In what way was the work you chose conceived and created for a particular location or environment?
In what way is the meaning or subject of the piece intertwined with the place in which it is situated – and the observer’s experience and interpretation of the work is unavoidably, and usually intentionally, framed by the political, social or geographic aspects of the location? Your topic must fall within the time-frame covered in the course.
Consider –
What is ‘Place’? How does it change through time? Does it? Additionally, how has the meaning and purpose of your selected topic changed over time?
You must use at least six sources. Two scholarly articles (jstor, for example) are required. Research can come from the Internet (reputable sources only), books on art history, politics, etc.. Sources should be varied, academic in nature, and considered authorities on your particular subject.
All source material should be current and explore recent developments in the scholarship of the site / piece you selected.
Your paper should be at least 5 pages long, double-spaced, with 1” margins. Your paper should be 1500 words minimum and should include an introduction and a conclusion. These pages do not include photos, title page, bibliography, etc.
Type size should not exceed 12 points. Additionally, it should include at least two direct quotes from your sources, appropriately attributed to the author. Proofread your paper, grammar and spelling count, spell check doesn’t catch everything!
