The purpose of this assignment is to introduce you to scientific research publications and begin to extract pertinent information from these publications. The publications should be peer-reviewed articles (i.e., NOT literature reviews) in the assigned topic. The specific paper will not be assigned and therefore your only requirement, in terms of selection, is a general topic of the material that we are discussing in class. The report should include the following information:
Introduction/Background (5 points)
A very brief introduction and background. Only include what is essential to understand the contents of the publication.
Publication’s hypothesis (5 points)
The question the researchers are trying to answer
Methods used to address their research question (5 points)
Results (5 points)
Brief summary of their results.
Including figures and explaining them is highly desirable.
Discussion (5 points)
What did the researcher(s) contribute to the field and whether or not there are still gaps in knowledge.
