Compose a research paper providing additional details about the focus of your article—patient care, health care systems, quality improvement programmes, or something else entirely? In Chapter 1 of Introduction to Quality and Safety Education for Nurses (Kelly, Vottero, & Christie-McAuliffe, 2018), you learned about the origins of the patient safety and quality of care movement currently present in health care. You also were introduced to several initiatives, including the IOM Quality Chasm report. Currently, this series includes 12 separate reports released between 2000 and 2015. A link to Across the Chasm: Six Aims for Changing the Health Care System is included below. You will see individual links to the 6 aims on the right hand side of the article. Based on this work, the IOM recommended focusing on the six specific aims “STEEEP” (safe, timely, effective, efficient, equitable, & patient-centered). The six STEEEP aims are discussed in table 1.4 on page 19 of your text.
Instructions:
Your assignment for this week is to locate one article from a peer-reviewed journal, published within the last seven years that focuses on one or more of these six aims. The easiest way to find relevant articles is to use “STEEEP aims” as your keyword search. Read the article looking for how the STEEEP aims are used. Using this article, your text, and any other relevant references to compose a 2-3 page paper that answers the following questions:
Which of the STEEP aims is addressed in your article?
Does your article focus on patient care, health care systems, quality improvement initiatives, or another area?
Summarize the findings reported in the article.
Summarize what you learned and how you might be able to integrate what you learned into your nursing practice.
This report should be in APA format (double spaced, 1” margins, tab-indented paragraphs, title page, reference list, etc.). Your report should be approximately 2-3 pages in length (excluding the title page and reference page). At a minimum, your references should include your textbook and the article selected. The IOM reports linked below may also be useful in writing your paper.
Please refer to the grading rubric for guidelines on the exact expectations for each section.
