can certainly select one of those two passages to use for your essay.)
Once you’ve picked your ONE passage from “Section A” and TWO passages from
“Section B”, now write a 4-5 page essay exploring how each of the two passages you’ve chosen
from “Section B” might lead you to read the passage you selected from “Section A” differently.
What things might each of the two passages from “Section B” help you to notice or to argue about
the passage from “Section A”? Are there certain things that one of the passages from “Section B”
might cause you to interpret the passage from “Section A” one way, while the other passage from
“Section B” that you’ve selected might lead you to interpret the passage from “Section A” a
different way? What kinds of claims or arguments about the passage you’ve chosen from “Section
A” would the two passages you’ve selected from “Section B” encourage or allow you to make?
Those are kinds of questions you want to explore in your essay. In short, consider how the passages
you’ve chosen from “Section B” might variously shape the way you read the passage you’ve
selected from “Section A”.
