Part 2:
Respond to the following
I am Clovis I, son of Childeric, king of the Salian Franks. I inherited the throne from my father in 481, at the age of 15. I have been in many battles and am now preparing to go to war again. The year is 507 and the enemy is the Visigoths. I wear my Merovingian fibula, which is inlaid with precious garnet and other precious stones set in silver inlaid filigree. The top of my fibula is adorned with eagle heads and there are a series of equally stylized eagle heads in loops on the side of each pin, as well as on the fibula sides. The eagle is important because it is a symbol of power and status, all who see it will know my might. This I have polished so the eagle motif glimmers by the campfire light. No one will get close enough to see the fish that decorate the main body of the broches, or the garnets that shine as the eagle eyes.

It is February or maybe March, the year 507. I have issued orders for the army to mobilize. We will cross the Loire into Aquitaine, invade the Visigoth-controlled Aquitaine and then move south as soon as possible.

Having conquered the territories from Loire to Somme we have successfully ended the Kingdom of Soissons. Now we have a fortified base, an extensive arms factory and the Romans who had served with Syagrius are being joined with our forces. We know that Alaric awaits us at Poitiers. We will encamp near the Vouille` to the north-west of Poitiers, where we will be a distance away of about 9 miles. When our fighting is over and we decamp, I will use some of the solidus in my pouch to buy wine and food for the men. I have sent scouts today to determine where the Visigoth army is. Their position will determine where I position my soldiers on the field of battle of my choosing.

The battle is now over and was not an easy task but we have prevailed. We now have a strategic advantage in Poitiers, at the junction of old Roman roads that go north and south, with a navigable crossing of the river. It is now time to rest and plan our next conquest. Next, we will sweep south to overtake the Gothic-ruled cities of Northern, central, and western Aquitaine. And Bordeaux. From there I believe we will move on to Toulouse where there is vast royal treasure.
