Queer Issues Resource Kit Assignment
Consider an aspect of Queer Issues that is of interest to you – it may be an area that you want to learn more about. Narrow the issue you would like to study, for example –Queer Sexualities – more specifically, Power Dynamics Reflected in Queer Sexual Realities.
You are a frontline worker at the Rainbow Resource Centre (social service agency for the Queer community that is based in Winnipeg, Manitoba – discussed on March 7th) and your supervisor has tasked you with creating a Resource Kit targeted at the specific demographic group related to Queer Issues. As a government-funded agency, the Resource Kit must be based on factual research-driven information. You MUST create a resource kit.
The Resource Kit should include the following elements:
1. A synopsis of the issue based on factual information
2. Signs and manifestations to look for – can be structural, relational, or individual presenting concerns
3. What actions should be taken if confronted with the issue or supporting a social work client?
4. Research-based interventions to combat the issue
5. Alternative interventions based on the literature
6. Additional resources
7. Additional information you may find relevant
Be creative. There is no pre-defined format for this assignment.
Your resource kit should contain a variety of resources. Examples may include tangible items, activities, puzzles, games, questionnaires, interactive training, infographic, videos, podcasts, blogs, etc.
Make a video of you “unboxing” your assignment, providing a description of your resource kit, why you chose the items, the research to support its effectiveness, etc.
Video Content needs to be embedded within an exactly 7-minute video to be again submitted via an unlisted YouTube link uploaded only on BlackBoard (no email submission). Please ensure you maximize your audio/microphone volume for clarity. We will be sharing the videos in class.
Prepare a 1-page summary of your resource kit, articulating the highlights and core content elements of your submission in a free-flowing essay.
Pay attention to your writing skills: APA format, introduction, body, and conclusion, grammar, spelling, sentence structure, citations, and reference page. Minimum 5 References (at least two academic sources). Some of these sources can be mentioned in your video, but they all need to be listed on your reference page.
Research-based literature needs to be obtained from an academic source. Include the source information in your APA-styled written summary’s reference page.
You will be graded on the following areas:
1. Overall Quality and Strength of the Presented Resource Kit – Maximum of 5 Points
2. Understanding and Articulation of Chosen Issue and Outlined Initiatives – Maximum of 5 Points
3. Creativity, Originality, and Efficacy of Video Presentation – Maximum of 5 Points
4. Written Summary and Research Strength and Integration – Maximum of 5 Points
Perfect Score 20/20. Passing Score is 20/20.
