Popular media is rife with portrayals of mental illness and psychopathology – with some depictions being more accurate than others. For this project, you are to select an example of popular culture and analyze its portrayal of a specific mental illness. You must have your selection approved prior to writing your analysis. The deadline for approval and the final deadline for the paper are listed on the Course Calendar. Please note, if you select a series, it would be best to select only one season or even two or three specific episodes on which to base your paper. Additionally, some selections may depict an array of mental illness (e.g., the series Bojack Horseman depicts multiple psychopathologies, including depression, narcissism, substance abuse and addiction, and dementia). While you may wish to identify multiple psychopathologies in your paper, it would behoove you to focus on only one or two.
