Part A: Short Essays
Write short essays of approximately 750 words on any two of the following topics.
Briefly summarize the findings and implications of the Rosenhan article for the social construction of crime. Then, apply your analysis to an example from the criminal justice system or another institutional system. How does this approach contribute to our understanding of the justice system?
What does Quinney mean by crimes of domination and crimes of accommodation? Give an example of each.
Dupont describes the “pluralization of security” as a shift in the process of contemporary policing. Define what he means by this term, and explain why this is happening. Provide two examples.
Define the concept of governmentality as the “conduct of conduct.” Show how this concept helps in the analysis of two separate control practices from the readings by Rose, Dupont, or Cosgrave.
