Purpose:
This assignment is intended to demonstrate your understanding of a family therapy approach by showing how you would apply it with your family of origin. Choose the model with which you most resonate so that you can delve into it more thoroughly.
Assignment:
Write a reference paper of 4-5 pages (APA style, double spaced, plus the title and reference pages, for a total of 6-7 pages. The primary text (Goldenberg, Stanton, & Goldenberg) provides the foundation for your understanding of the model, but at least 4 supplementary texts or reference articles should be used to enhance your understanding of the model and your paper presentation (so, there should be at least 5 reference citations on your Reference page).
Include the following three sections in your paper:
Describe one of the models of family therapy and apply it to a fictitious family of origin. The paper should identify and apply key terms and concepts from the model, and clearly explain how these concepts were experienced in fictitious family.
Identify treatment goals based upon the model chosen and illustrate how a therapist might use aspects of the model to treat the family dynamics discussed. You should use at least 2 of the 4 supplementary references (beyond the textbook) in this section; you can find articles that describe using the model in therapy (see the PsycInfo database in the APU Library online resources).
Reflect on the role of faith, spirituality, and/or religion in your own family, including how it impacted your family dynamics, and how it may or may not be integrated in a treatment process using the designated family therapy model. See the articles provided below to help you with this section of the paper; you must use at least one of them or find another recent scholarly article (not a website) to inform this section of your paper.
(Note: If you feel more comfortable using a fictitious family rather than your own, you may do so as long as you are able to clearly articulate and apply the main components of the theory chosen).
