You have been assigned to one of the three strategy groups to choose a strategy you are most comfortable with the strategy group you have been assigned. (See Chapter 19: Why TESOL?)
You will videotape your demonstration, upload the video during your assigned week, and post a reflection of the strategy connecting theory to practice. You will videotape your demonstration, upload the video during your assigned week, and post a reflection of the strategy connecting theory to practice.
Beginning in Module 4, you will take turns sharing your video demonstrations with the class. If it is your turn to share your video, you are asked to upload to a site such as YouTube or Vimeo and share the link with the group in a post. If it is not your turn to share, you are asked to post a reflection of the strategies modeled by your peers, connecting it to theory and practice.
Your Strategy and Demonstration Reflection is worth 50 points and your responses to your peers are graded in the same manner as a discussion post. Each student will upload their final Strategy Demonstration through video and/or link and their final reflections in Module 7.
Expectations for PRESENTERS
Your task is to upload a video and post your commentary for that strategy. The Method/Strategy Demonstration includes three parts that you are responsible for:
VIDEO UPLOAD: Find a creative way of demonstrating the assigned strategy and the specific steps that it entails. Video record yourself or you can have a friend record you. Upload your video to YouTube, Vimeo, or another video sharing site. Be sure to include a link to the video in your post. If you put a password on your video, be sure to include that in the post as well.
DISCUSSION POST: Create a post to share the link to your video and describe the following:
For what age (grade) and proficiency level you are demonstrating the strategy;
For what language learning objectives, you think this strategy would be most useful and why;
How you would adapt the strategy for other oral proficiency levels? For example, if you demonstrated the Total Physical Response for Kindergarten ELLs in the silent period (preproduction), explain how you would adapt the strategy for an ELL at the early production or speech emergence stages.
FACILITATE the discussion about your demo: pose questions to yourself, respond to questions, invite comments, and so forth.
