This essay is to discuss both Tintoretto and Rembrandt van Rijn’s paintings of Susanna and the Elders, specifically to call out how interpreters have said that the preference for opulence shown by the Susanna depicted alludes to the possibility that she may have enticed the seduction, and that a condemning view of her assailants is vitiated by her enjoyment for such opulence. I would say that her preferences do not give permission for others lechery and that she is indeed a victim. This “she was asking for it” mentality is abhorrent and that is the tone which I would like this paper written. I have attached my essay instructions for the general details given.
