OpportunityU: An assessment and pitch document that captures in two-pages the organization you
want to work on and why it is ripe for an analytics transformation. You can do this work
individually or with one other classmate. It is due at the end of session two because we need to
get rolling and it’s worth 150 points out of a 1000 so it carries some weight. You will post this
for a grade and peer review. The goal is to attract a team to your idea and/or find a classmate’s
idea that is so compelling you need to take action on it as a leader. You need to figure what
makes a good pitch.
I will look your pitch documents over carefully, perhaps planting a few seed ideas and also
collecting information on your backgrounds and skill levels so I can help facilitate the formation
of balanced teams. Hopefully, we will be lucky enough to have classmates working in
organizations that are “in motion” around analytics transformations and are willing to act as an
informal host for our project work. Those are the best opportunities. If such opportunities are
available I will strong encourage us to organize around those.
UTeam FormationU: For the most part I expect you to self-organize into teams. I know that can be
a bit difficult and we all have different levels of experience working on distributed teams. In
session three I will host an optional sync session or online meeting so we can form project teams.
I will also provide a guidance document on team formation that provides a checklist for getting
started and some well-tested suggestions for working together.
Our teams are all in. Everyone on a team gets the same grade on team deliverables. In session 4
you will submit your first team deliverable (50 points). It is a brief team start-up document
outlining the selected opportunity, team members, roles, communication/work plan, etc. This
may also include initial thoughts on a transformation plan and demonstration project but there is
no need to rush it.
